3D Crystal Color Lacquer 5 Ways

Hi there today I would like to share with you my final projects for the Sakura Hobby Craft Design Team and how I used Color Crystal Lacquer Five different ways!

Today I am creating embellishments. The first way I used the colored lacquer is to pour it into molds.

I had some Wilton molds for cake making and I thought it would be fun to see how the lacquer would work. I tested a few ways and the best method I found was to lay a foundation of Clear Crystal Lacquer down first and let stand to get sticky before adding my Colored Lacquer and finishing off with yet another layer of Clear Lacquer. This method worked best and I let this set for about two days before attempting to remove them.
Different temperatures and climates will determine drying time.
Here are the finished embellishments of a red rose , green leaf and a gold fleur de lis.. Perfect!

Next, I used gold color lacquer to color a pillar I made out of corrugated cardboard. Since the color lacquers came with a pen like tip it was very easy to add shine and pearly gold to my hand made pillar ready for my layout.

Then I decided to play with bottle caps. The first one I added some color lacquers (Blue and Pink) to the inside of my bottle cap (used bottle cap from beer). I filled the bottom only and let the colors blend naturally. I set that aside to dry.  The second bottle cap I decided to flatten out with my Sizzix Big Shot. **Note: this will cause your plates to be cut** I would recommend placing a shim on both sides of the cap to prevent this from happening.  I placed some Color Lacquer in strips and proceeded to use a toothpick to swirl the colors into each other.

I loved it! and decided to punch a hole into the top of the flattened bottle cap with my Cropadile Big bite. I also colored the edges with a black Copic marker and added a ball chain.

The second bottle cap (not flattened) could be used for a pendant as it matches the necklace. 

Whalla recycled bottle caps into jewelry.

Next, I found some weird looking washers in my husbands garage. They reminded me of steampunk so I had to put some together for an upcoming project. I used Gold and Silver Pearl Color Lacquer. I colored the outsides and let dry. I also thought it would be fun to add a broken piece of colored lacquer from test done on the molds. It was an owl that didn't quite turn out when trying to take it out of the mold.. I never throw anything away so I decided to use it too! I glued the whole lot together with E6000 glue.

Lastly I decided to color a domino. First I stamped the domino with a dragon fly stamp with Stazon ink.
then I added some color with the colored lacquer. Here I used Blue and Pink. I think the possibilities here are endless! This could very easily be a key chain or hung as a pendant!. I am definitely going to play some more ....

I think this would make a great key chain!

Compact (ing) with 3D Crystal Color Lacquer

Hi, Brenda here and welcome to another great evening with Sakura products.  For this project I was thrilled to try the 3D Crystal Color Lacquer.  I've never had a chance to use these and I tell you, they are AWESOME.  The color is so rich and vibrant.  Let me show you what I did.

I started with an old compact that had these ugly skulls on them.  I know I purchased it with this project in mind and it was only 25 cents.  Imagine that. (Sorry if I offend anyone who loves skulls, just not for me)

So I took the label with the skulls off and used my goo gone to get ALL the glue off. 

Then I used the 3D Crystal Color Lacquer and simply squeezed it into the rim of the compact with no particular rhyme or reason.  Just went with it.  Next I took a tooth pick and simply "pulled" the colors together a bit and this is what became of it. I added some dew drops into the mixture while it was still wet.

and here it is.  I'll be styling now with my new compact.  Better than those skulls, LOL

Butterfly Lacquer Ring

I love wearing big bulky rings, because it just gives any outfit a special touch.  Last year I purchased a butterfly ring at a flea market in San Antonio, Texas, but during our recent moved I lost it.  So, my project for you this week was to great a butterfly ring using Crystal Color Lacquer by Sakura Hobby Craft.

There is totally something about butterfly that I love, and I think that it's because to me they represent a beautiful flight of freedom.  This butterfly lacquer ring is very easy to make and you can make just about anything from rings to even hair accessories just by simply using the Crystal Lacquer or the Color Lacquers.  Not only does this gave it color but it also gave it a 3 Dimensional look to it.

As you can see my youngest daughter had to be the first to model my new wearable Butterfly Lacquer Ring. She is just like her mama loving butterflies as well.

So, what do you need to create this Butterfly Lacquer Ring, well not too many supplies, because this is one project even your kids could make.

Materials Used by Sakura:

• Sakura Hobby Crafts - Crystal Lacquer
• Sakura Hobby Crafts - Color Lacquer

Other Materials Used:

• Aleene's Jewelry & Metal Glue
• Darice Stretch Adjustable Ring
• Beading  NylonThread 
• Pearl Bead
• Any Bead Connecto ( I used Beyond Beautiful Flower & Gold Swirl Connectors)
• Graphic 45 Metal Butterfly
• Jewelry Tools:  Wire cutter

The first step is to gather your material.  Like any craft project it is a lot easier to work when you have everything there in front of you.  

Step Two:

Make sure you clean your surface that you are about to work with.  I just simply wiped the Graphic 45 Metal Butterfly with a damp paper towel.

Step Three:

Decide where you want to glue you beads to the butterfly.  Once you have decided where they go on the Graphic 45 Metal Butterfly using the Aileen Jewelry & Metal glue adhere them to the metal butterfly or surface you are working on.

Step Four:

Once glued you can begin applying the Crystal Lacquer if you want a clear finish or like me, add the Crystal Color Lacquer that you can purchase at Sakura Hobby Craft website.  What I like about the lacquer is that it dries very fast and it leaves NO bubbles, now that is AWESOME!  Once you apply this set it aside for at least one hour or until it's completely dried.

Step Five:

With the Darice Stretch Adjustable ring you can then take a pearl string the nylon thread and back into the opening in the center of the Graphic 45 Metal Butterfly and thread it through the holes on the adjustable ring. I glued on the backing using the Jewelry Glue just to give secure it better.

Once all that is dry you have a perfect ring for any occasion or like my soon to be 9 year old said, "perfect for her to wear to school."

You can use this same technique to make matching barrettes or pendents using the Graphic 45 Metal Butterflies and Sakura's Crystal Color Lacquer.
