Crystal Lacquer Graphic 45 French Country Tin

I love Graphic 45 and I really love their new French Country collection, which was perfect for my Crystal Lacquer French Country Tin.

The lacquer and the paper collection worked very well for my project and I loved the finished look.  Not only did I create an awesome decor for my kitchen but I also got to play with two great quality products Sakura Hobby Craft Crystal Lacquer and Graphic 45.

To create with these two products it's not very difficult in fact I will show just how easy it is to create this beautiful Crystal Lacquer Graphic 45 French Country Tin.

From top to bottom you can see the lacquer glossy finish on my tin, totally an oooh la la touch!

Here you can also see the added embellishment of a wooden fence I picked up at a local craft store.

I loved the way the Liquid Leaf made this look really distressed and he Crystal Lacquer on the lid made it even better.

Now it doesn't take a lot to make this tin, but it does take some patience.

Step One:

Gather  your supplies.

As you can see I used the following:

• Graphic 45 - French Country Paper Collection
• Gesso
• Acrylic Paint - Apple Barrel Glossy Black
• Paint Brush - Bristle & Sponge
• Liquid Leaft
• Fabric Square
• Scissors
• Ruler
• Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Vintage Photo
• Wooden Fence
• Rotary Cutter
• Old coffee
• Heat Gun

Step Two:

Prep the milk tin by priming with Gesso and a sponge paintbrush.  Just like you see below.

Step Three:

Paint the milk tin with Apple Barrel Glossy Black Acrylic Paint and then with another bristle slightly brush some gesso, this gives it the distressed look.  Once dry apply some Liquid Leaf, and I just rubbed it with my fingers but you can brush with a paint brush.  

Step Four:

Once all the paint and liquid leaf is dried you can then take a piece of Graphic 45 French Country collection and measure to fit the tin.  I distressed the paper prior to adhering to the tin.  

The tin looks a little scary but that all changes once you get your paper on their.

I trimmed the top rooster border for my bottom of my tin, which I layered with the fence you see.  

Step Five:

I brushed some of the Crystal Lacquer on to the entire tin.  Make sure you cover every inch.  This step is what gives the tin that extra touch and seals the paint at the same time.

I used a round Rooster stick from the Graphic 45 French Country collection for the top of the lid and it was a perfect fit. I sealed with the 3D Crystal lacquer.

Now the fence. I purchased this fence at a local craft store that typically has quilt supplies, but I was just lucky and I distressed with some of the liquid leaf and Tim Holts Vintage Photo ink. 

The roosters and the fence almost looked just like it would in a farm.  Loved this!

Step Six:

Now glue the fence to the tin.

Step Seven:

I took a piece of fabric square and dipped in recycled coffee that I had left over, see even coffee can be recycled, I LOVE THAT!!!

Measure and cut, which is not hard to to especially with a rotary cutter and quilter's ruler.

Dip in coffee and I had to let this piece soak for about an 1hr to get a distressed look.

I removed from coffee and dried up with heat gun to speed up the process.  You can also throw in the dryer but I was way too lazy to do that :)!

Step Eight:

Now you have a strip of fabric and you can make a bow for the tin.

Pretty huh, I love the way it turned out and see how easy it is to create with Sakura's Crystal Lacquer, the sky is truly the limit.  I hope you enjoyed my project.

Sparkle and Shine Collage

Sparkle and Shine with Terri Sproul Mixers and Colors of 3D Crystal Lacquer.  Sparkle in the background and shine on top as accents and sealing the collage!

1.  Cut a piece of black matte board to 5"x7".  Use a "Dot" double-sided tape roller, and apply adhesive to the whole matte board.

2.  Brush the blue from the Shimmers Set using a big mop brush.  Dip the brush slightly into the color and burnish over the adhesive in various areas.  Leave some areas open for collage.

3.  Squirt a little clear 3D Crystal Lacquer onto a plastic lid or palette cup.  Brush the lacquer on the back of each pre-cut collage image, and press into place, overlapping various images to create the collage.  I used a little Distressed Inks over the surface in areas, to grunge up the image.

4.  Enhance collage by using various colors of 3D Liquid Lacquer - see the collage for ideas.  Once it is dried, cover the whole collage with clear 3D Liquid Lacquer.  Not only seals collage but adds a dimension like glass!

Funky Sacred Heart CD Case

Given a few supplies you can make a fun and funky decorated CD case. I may eventually turn this into a purse of sorts but right now I am just enjoying how cool this turned out.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn of Sakura's 3d Crystal Lacquer color sets, they made this project come to life. I have been having fun mixing up my own colors using the lacquer and the Terri Sproul mixers, but this is so much easier! My set just included the primary colors (and green and purple), so I made a very simple design.

Supplies:

Sakura's 3d Crystal Lacquer color set

Sharpie

Metal CD Case

Directions:

Draw your image on the cd case. I just free-handed a design of a sacred heart surrounded by roses. I have a real simple rose pattern- a swirl with two leaves beside it.

Start coloring in your heart. The 3D Lacquer stays really well to where you place it (it doesnt run much), so you can go right up to the edge of your sharpied line. If you overlap, it is fine because the lacquer is transparent and you can still see the lines through the lacquer after it dried. Just try not to overlap the colored lacquer- unless you mean to!

Next add a little yellow to the center of the flame, before it dried you will add some red to fill in the outlines. then take a toothpick of a needle and pull the yellow lacquer into the red and vice versa, until you have a nice flame look.

I used purple to color the frame of the heart.  

 Next color in your roses. I added a touch of purple to the flowers and swirled it just a bit.

I also added a hint of yellow to the leaves. 

Finish coloring in your design. I also decided to add more flowers to the top of the heart.

I just love how fun and funky this turned out! It has a nice hard finish, so seems to be very durable. It may even survive floating around in my big purse!

I used a lot of red on this design, but it was worth it!

Create an Easy Marbleized Charm

Create an easy marbleized charm using just a few supplies.

Everything in south Louisiana oozes purple and gold (LSU), so this is a team spirit elegant charm.

















Materials:
Memory charm holder
Microscope slides
3d Crystal Lacquer
Terri Sproul Mixers, variety of colors


Directions:

Take two microscope slides and squirt a nice amount of 3d Crystal Lacquer on the surface of the slides.

I used purple and gold mixers and sprinkled them on the surface of the lacquer. You can use a toothpick to slightly mix the colors together. Don't mix too much because your colors will blend, we just want a marbled effect.

The gold almost looks like gold leaf it is so rich!

I even pressed the slides together ( lacquered sides together) and press. This marbles the design even more. When you pull them apart, sit them lacquered side up to dry.





Once dry, place slide inside the Memory Charm holder and you are good to go!


The mixers produce a translucent marbled effect. You can still see through the glass, so if you wished you could place an image or scrapbook paper behind it. I like the simple look of the shimmering marbled colors; very opulent.

Faux Stained Glass with Sakura 3d Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul Mixers

I love stained glass and Renaissance art and using Sakura 3d Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul mixers I can make my own.




Supplies:
Sakura 3d Crystal Lacquer
An assortment of Terri Sproul Mixers
Terri Sproul Color Enhance Effect
Black puff paint
Piece of clear glass
Paint brush
Image to paint, same size as glass










Start of with your piece of glass. I had a 20 X 10" piece of glass left over from a room divider I bought for 30 bucks since most of the glass was broken. What I did with the room divider is a whole 'nuther project.

Print out of your computer an image you want to transfer to glass. Since it is glass, you just put it under the glass and trace. Use the tile feature with your printer and you can print a image out as big as you want!
Make sure to clean the glass first. You don't want to paint over a smudge that can now never be cleaned. 


Then grab your puff paint and outline the main design.  You may even want to go over the image with a marker in the spot you want to outline before you begin to outline. I love the Birth of Venus painting and have used it numerous times in designs so I was comfortable tracing over it without any lines drawn on my image under the glass.





 This is what it will look like. Don't paint yourself in a corner. Start at the top and work your way down. Be careful to not place your hand or arm in the wet paint. For example, don't do all the hair first and then go back to do to the face. You will never be able to balance your hand and draw a steady line without getting your arm in the paint. Believe me! I know!

The puff paint will serve as a wall to keep the paint inside a certain area. They even make faux leading for gallery glass but I find that is too thick and you get a cramp in your hand and thumb from squeezing the bottle. If you'd like a gray color just get gray puff paint. I like the black so that is what I use. 









The next step is to start to paint. With the mixers you can either pre-mix the colors or squirt out some lacquer and mix the mixers in as you go. If you go that route make sure you mix the mixers in with the brush, if you don't you may end up with some spots that didn't mix well. If your lacquer dries before you notice, you can either leave it or peel up that area. 

In the image below, I noticed I hadn't blended the mixers well and went back while it was still wet.






For the skin tone I mixed some Citrine Pearl and Red Pearl together.
I used Garnet Red for lips and
Gold and Gold Dust for hair.
Violet was used with some Terri Sproul Color Enhance Effect for the ribbon, eyes and background. The Enhance Effects changes the color so that I can use the same mixer but it looks like another color (since I had no blue).

Just adjust the ratio of citrine and red for shadows and highlights.

Image over a white sheet. You could frame the image with a white backing sheet for this effect

Or you can  hang it without the backing paper so that you can see through it for the full stained glass effect.

On my next piece, I think I will solder the edges so that I can attach a chain.

My dog in the background likes it too.
