Turning a plastic tile into a prism of glass looking goodness!!  Almost like Dicrohic glass.

3D Crystal Lacquer is the key to creating fast, easy, marbelized accents.  Use the colored 3D Crystal Lacquer, or create your own using Terri Sproul Mixers.

Turn the tile over and on the back side squeeze lines of colored lacquer you want to use.  If you want to create your own color, mix it up and put into an empty applicator bottle.

Once you have the lines of color, use a toothpick, or I used an end of a paintbrush to pull the color straight down from top to bottom, adding a swirl motion as I went.  Play around and see what patterns you come up with! 

(Semi-Transparent so background colors of card, add and further enrich tile colors.)

If you don't like what the result is, just wipe off lacquer and start over.

Lastly, I added some of the Terri Sproul Mixers fine glitter lightly on the back to enhance the shimmery effect.

Use clear 3D Crystal Lacquer to adhere to the card.

Heart Lifts spool

This week, I would like to show you my little heartfelt reminders to myself....

This "Heart Lifts" has some of my touchstone words, & a couple quotes printed & glued inside to remind me on those days when life seems hard.

I started by choosing which glass tile shape I wanted. I found the right words in a unloved large print book, glued them to a circle cut to the right size from cardstock.  I added the red hearts with a gel pen. I used 3D Crystal Lacquer to adhere the cardstock to the bottom of the glass circle tile.  Set it aside to dry.

In my stash of wood pieces, I found the thread spool that would give me the room for the canvas once rolled up. I added lace trim to the bottom & top, covering the bottom with a piece of cardboard. Set aside to dry.

I had a scrap of heavy weight canvas leftover and cut it to a roughly 1 inch wide and had to sew the two pieces together to get the length of 11 inches.  I added the same lace trim on the edge of the canvas, once I had zigzagged the edges.

I glued my touch stone words - EMPOWER, STRENGTH, LOVE YOURSELF and a couple quotes to the inside of the canvas, leaving about 1.5 inches at the start so that could be glued to the wooden spool. I glued (I know I should have sewn it down, but was creating as I went along & didn't think of the ribbon until the canvas strip was already glued onto the spool) the vintage seam binding ribbon on the end. I added 3 sizes of paper flowers with a brad on the top end, covering the glued area of the ribbon.

More Glass Tile Pendants!

I made more really easy pendants!

To make a pendant like these, you need one of Sakura's glass tiles and matching bezel cup, Crystal Lacquer and an image that fits the tile.

The glass tiles are available in rectangular, square and circular shapes.

There are bezel cups to match.  There are also bails you can glue right onto the glass tiles. 

I made two pendants.  They both use scrapbook paper.  One is heavy cardstock paper from Graphic 45.  The other is thin paper from Sandylion.  They both worked well!


You could use almost any paper, and I think fabric would work fine, too.  I think this would be great with a map featuring your hometown or some of your favorite text. 
I sealed the images with Mod Podge.

You could trace the shape of the glass tile onto your paper and cut the paper to fit, but it’s really easy to just adhere the glass tile to the paper with Crystal Lacquer and then trim it when it starts to set up.  Crystal Lacquer comes in a bottle with a small dispenser tip that is perfect for squeezing out small amounts.  I lightly coated the back of my glass tiles with Crystal Lacquer.  I didn’t spread the Crystal Lacquer all the way to the edges of the tiles, because it sort of gets squished out when you put it down on the paper.  After coating the tiles, I placed them where I wanted them on the paper.  The tile wants to slide around on the Crystal Lacquer, so you’ll want to hold it in place for a moment while it settles.

Once the Crystal Lacquer started to set up, I trimmed the paper with scissors.

Then I coated the back of the paper lightly with Crystal Lacquer and set the tiles down into the bezel cups.  I used a wet paper towel to wipe away a little Crystal Lacquer that got squished out.

And that was it!  All I had to do then was put the pendants on chains.  Sakura offers ball chain in several finishes.  I added a brass chain for the brass finish bezel cup.

I live in a really dry place, and I could make these in the morning to wear the same evening, but in other places, you’ll want to let the Crystal Lacquer dry for at least a day or so.

This month Sakura Hobby Crafts sent us some amazing jewellery findings to work with. But to be honest with you, I've never fancied myself as a jewellery maker, ever. I've tried making some pieces over the years, but never really got the hang of it. So when Sakura sent me these pieces I knew I would have to figure out a way to make these pieces sparkle!

Warning the following project is rated EASY!

 

 

Step One

Choose a rub-on of your choice and rub in onto the back of your glass.

Step Two

I used a metal large tag ring and removed the paper center. I cut a transparency circle to fit. I did use a very thick transparency. Insert transparency circle back into the frame.

Step Three

At this point you could put your rub-on's on the entire surface of your circle, but I really wanted the angel to show thru so I did this step last and it worked out well. I glued my glass piece directly in the center of my transparency and let this dry.

DO NOT LIFT THIS PIECE ONCE YOU'VE GLUED IT DOWN. THE RUB-ON WILL LIFT OFF.

 Step Four

I used a hole punch (Cropadile) and made a hole at the top of my ring. I inserted an eyelet for extra support.

 Step Five

I glued beads around the edge of the glass, using 3D Crystal Lacquer. Then I surrounded the entire base with 3D Crystal Lacquer as well. BEFORE the lacquer had time to dry, I sprinkled some glitter around the edges.

Easy Jewelry Making Pendants

Hi! Today I would like to share with you my easiest project yet! The possibilities are endless. Family Photos, Magazine Pages, Origami Paper, Tissue Paper.. I could go on..

Todays tutorial is using these products:
Sakura Fancy Glass Pendants and Findings
3D Crystal Lacquer
Paper

I started by selecting pictures and background paper.
I found a Marilyn Monroe picture out of an old calendar.

 

 

 I trimmed them to fit my bezel

 I put some Crystal Lacquer in the bezel , then placed my photo/picture

into the bezel and covered it with more Crystal Lacquer. Then placed my glass on top.

That's it for this one!

 

I started another with cardstock paper and a fussy cut butterfly.

I placed everything in the bezel and pressed firmly to make an embossed impression of the bezel so I would know where to cut. I used the same method of layering and Crystal lacquer and my glass on top and whalla! instant Jewelry!

Lacquer Swirl Tile Necklace

Playing with 3D Crystal Lacquer and clear surfaces is way fun!!!  It is abstract, surreal, and wonderful patterns can be made.

The tile I used is round with a hole so you can make it into a necklace.  The 3D Crystal Lacquer is on the back and my homemade graphic artwork is on the front.

Take the tile and turn it over to the flat side - that is the back.

I used 3D Crystal Lacquer in the Metallic colors.  I ran medium lines of color alternating from gold to blue, filling the back of the tile.

Using a toothpick, I swirled the colors together.  I like the free-form look that was created.

For more control, you can marbelize the colors by pulling the toothpick down in a line from top to bottom of tile, repeating moving to the right until there are blended lines all the way across.

There are lots of plastic or rubber blending tools for this, but since this is such a small surface, the toothpick works well.

Lastly, I added a pearl Mica Flakes.  Sakura Hobby  has all sorts of add-ins.

Let this all dry.  When dried, add a layer of clear 3D Crystal Lacquer to seal it all together.  You can wear this necklace on either side!  See how pretty the lacquered and mica flake side looks!

On the flip side, add your art.  Collage, or as I did, made a graphic sticker and added that.  You could add dimensional elements instead of collaging as well.  Squeeze a small puddle of 3D Crystal Lacquer and push your element into it.  When dried, the lacquer will hold the piece in place.

Add a jump ring through the hole and string the fiber through the jump ring, tie end and wear!!!!!

Think of the acrylic books, clear plastic sheets, mugs where you can blend lacquer colors and embellish.  Anything clear will work.

Celebrate Box

Hope your holiday week - CANADA DAY here in Canada and 4th of JULY in the USA are AWESOME for you!

I am always telling people to CELEBRATE their accomplishments, whether small or large. So, my first project for July is a little CELEBRATE box, where I can put a note in there for each achievement, goal, etc. through out the year.

I started with a little chocolate box that has been kicking around my stash of boxes for awhile.  The box measures 2.75 X 3.5 inches and is 1 inch deep.
I covered the lid with a scrapbook paper, and gessoed the print on the bottom of the box. The inside of the box was untouched.

The hardest decision - which one of Sakura Hobby Craft’s glass tiles and matching bezel cup.
The glass tiles are available in rectangle, square and circular shapes.
I decided to go with the bronze round one for this project.

I cut the word - "CELEBRATE" from a large print book, then added it to similar colour of paper, then used my only border punch to add similar paper as the box over & below the word.  I used 3D Crystal Lacquer to glue the glass tile over the word.
I tied the organza coloured ribbon through the bail at the top of the bezel cup.

I added a piece of vintage lace over a document seal sticker and a teal paper scrap, then used 3D Crystal Lacquer to glue down the bezel cup. Used it also to glue down the 5 beads around the bezel cup.

I added more vintage lace all around the side of the box top, then added the teal trim over the lace.

For each goal, or achievement that is reached, I will be adding a little note inside. At the end of the year, will record all those achievements in my journal and then start again in January 2014.
