Faux Patina on Canvas Mixed Media With Terri Sproul Mixers

Hello, Peggy here, today I am sharing my version of a faux patina
look made with Terri Sproul Shimmer Mixers on 10x10' Canvas.

For the entire Month of March
Terri Sproul Mixer Shimmer Mica Color Sets are on Sale 20% off .
Just use the code "Shimmer03"
at checkout!

A list of items I used today are,
Terri Sproul Shimmers Mixers
in these colors:
Green
Tanzanite
Purple
Smokey Quartz
Violet
Citrine
3D Crystal Lacquer
Rubbing Alcohol
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist

I prepped my canvas with my mixed media supplies
glued down and painted with white gesso.
Then I was ready to paint with Terri Sproul Mixers.
I thought it would be interesting to see how these
mixers would perform with a spray gun.

I prepared my mixers for the gun with Alcohol. I filled separate
containers three quarters full and added the smallest amount of
mixers to see how the mixers would look.
Once I was satisfied with the color I prepped my gun
with smaller amounts of color on a scrap
paper before spraying on my canvas.

I heat set between each color.

Mixed up a little green mixer.

As I was trying to achieve different colors
I mixed the shimmer mixer colors together.

Lastly I sprayed the edges with
Tattered Angels Cork Glimmer Mist.
Here are my final images.

My final picture shows the vintage lady with Terri Sproul Mixers
mixed with 3D Crystal Lacquer painted on her hair.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial as much as I enjoyed making it!

3D Crystal Lacquer A Mother's Love Canvas

For those that don't know me, I lost my mom to cancer in 2008, and she is the reason why I started my paper crafting passion.  What started to be something that I wanted to learn how to create a simple album to hold all her lovely memories turned into a total paper crafting passion.

A Mother's Love is something I created using some of the things my mom loved and enjoyed as an inspiration.  My mom had a passion for flowers, and I have never had a green finger, but I truly enjoy flowers that are made out of paper, they are totally easy to maintain, and I don't feel guilty if they die.

To begin my project I tried to focus on the things she enjoyed and things she didn't like.  For instance, my mom would never have been caught dead in a dress, I think in my life time I recall her wearing a skirt only once.  She was never fond of anything with flower prints, so to spice it up, I added her favorite and not so favorite just because I can now play dressup.

Materials Used:
  • Sakura Hobby Craft - Terri Sproul Shimmer Mixers
  • Sakura Hobby Craft - 3D Crystal Lacquer
  • Gesso
  • Modge Podge
  • Scraps of pattern paper
  • Want2Scrap - Frilly Flourish Swirl White Pearls
  • Prisma Color Water Color Pencils
  • Chicken Wire Stamp
  • Scripture Stamp
  • Acrylic Paint Various Colors
  • Daler Rowney Watercolor pad
  • Daler Rowney Simply  Oil Pastels
  • Kraft Paper
  • Distressing Ink
  • Cotten Ball
  • Writer Archival Quality Pigment Ink Pen
  • 8 x 10 Daler Rowney Canvas
  • Sharpie Fine Point Black Marker
  • Brushes

My mom had big eyes, so I began drawing her face as I remember her on watercolor paper. I drew a somewhat's of a circle with a pencil and filled in the face.  Once you have drawn in the face.  Apply some Gesso allow to dry. Once dry you can start coloring in with your Prisma watercolor pencils.

If you look carefully the face is 3D and that is because my last step to creating the face was to apply Sakura's 3D Crystal Lacquer to the entire face and letting it dry for several hours.

Once you have the face complete you can move on to playing dressup with scrap pieces of paper.  I used Sakura's Terri Sproul shimmer mixers to my mom's dress to give it more of a shimmery look and to top it off I applied a piece of trim.

Now the canvas is a Daler Rowney 8 x 10 canvas, and I prepped it up using some Gesso!  Once the Gesso dried up I started to paint.  I used various colors of acrylic paint and to my orange paint I applied a bit of Terri Sproul's Shimmer Mixers which I added a bit of Sakura's 3D Crystal Lacquer, it gave it a glazed shimmer look.

The butterflies I cut out pieces from BoBunny's Country Garden Collection applied some Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer allowed to dry for several hours and I had a eye popping 3D butterfly.  Prior to applying the Lacquer I dabbed the butterflies with some of Terri Sproul's Shimmer Mixer to give them some shimmer as well, then I coated with the 3D Lacquer.

Can you just see how it shimmers with Terri Sproul's Shimmer Mixers LOVE IT!

It doesn't have to be completed perfect because remember it is mixed media and it's suppose to be fun, not perfect.

I used random stamps that I had to stamped the canvas once I had adhered the pattern paper to the painted canvas.  I also had to throw in some of Want2Scrap Frilly Flourish Swirl White Pearls.  My mom loved jewelry so I had to make sure I added some of her favorites.  Now, she didn't like eyeshadow but that was just me playing dressup and it was fun to do.

I made the heart also using Terri Sproul's Yellow Shimmer Mixer and mixed with Sakura's 3D Crystal Lacquer.  I hope you enjoyed my A Mother's Love Canvas!

Sparkle and Shine Collage

Sparkle and Shine with Terri Sproul Mixers and Colors of 3D Crystal Lacquer.  Sparkle in the background and shine on top as accents and sealing the collage!

Sakura Products:

Terri Sproul Mixers - Shimmer Set
3D Crystal Lacquer, Clear and color sets

1.  Cut a piece of black matte board to 5"x7".  Use a "Dot" double-sided tape roller, and apply adhesive to the whole matte board.

2.  Brush the blue from the Shimmers Set using a big mop brush.  Dip the brush slightly into the color and burnish over the adhesive in various areas.  Leave some areas open for collage.

3.  Squirt a little clear 3D Crystal Lacquer onto a plastic lid or palette cup.  Brush the lacquer on the back of each pre-cut collage image, and press into place, overlapping various images to create the collage.  I used a little Distressed Inks over the surface in areas, to grunge up the image.

4.  Enhance collage by using various colors of 3D Liquid Lacquer - see the collage for ideas.  Once it is dried, cover the whole collage with clear 3D Liquid Lacquer.  Not only seals collage but adds a dimension like glass!

Please do not forget, Marches Discount on Terri Sproul Shimmers - add code when you check out!  Receive 20% off.

Shimmering Cupcake

Hi everyone!
I am having so much FUN, seeing how these wonderful products
work with all kinds of mediums!

A list of items I used today on the following card:

Cardstock
rubber stamp sentiment
dye ink
craft foam
textured wallpaper
rickrack
asst. beads
craft glue
wooden stir stik
3D Crystal Lacquer
ROSE Shimmer Mica Color

I have been working on a few cards for the rest of this month and early April birthdays. I have challenged myself this year to use up paper scraps in my drawer bin and in that bin is a pile of textured wallpaper scraps and decided to use one of the samples.
I poured alittle 3D Crystal Lacquer onto the wallpaper sample, then used a wooden stir stik to scoop out the Rose Shimmer Mica (have you seen how LITTLE of the colour you need?) and then mix it all together right on the wallpaper.  I, sadly, had enough to colour 2 samples - well, really not sad but I have to remember how far this goes!

I used a paper scrap to cut the icing part of a cupcake, then cut out the coloured wallpaper.  Before it dried totally, I added some micro mini beads.

To layer the coloured cupcake icing onto the card, I had to use 3 layers of craft foam under it.
The bottom of the cupcake was cardstock folded accordion style.  I added a scrap of rickrack to the accordion part. I used a teal dye ink to stamp the sentiment below the cupcake on the cardstock.
I am happy with how the 3D Crystal Lacquer & Shimmer Mica Color coloured the textured wallpaper, makes it almost edible!

Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul Shimmer Mixer Flower Pillows (and a coupon)

Pink burlap pillow with flower (800x609)
I have a fun and easy home dec project for you!  I wanted to embellish some ivory and pink burlap pillows I made for spring, and Sakura’s Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul Shimmer Mixers were the perfect choice!

This is a great time to try this project, because Terri Sproul Shimmer Mixers are on sale for the month of March!  Just enter coupon code Shimmer03 for a 20% discount!
Pink burlap pillow closeupI made these beautiful shimmery flowers with die cut canvas.  I used the Tattered Florals die by Tim Holtz.  The canvas frays a little, but I decided to go with a slightly tattered look, rather than stiffening the fabric as I usually do (for more on diecutting fabric, visit my tutotial here.  Here is what the canvas petals look like:
Canvas petals (800x680)
I mixed some Crystal Lacquer with Terri Sproul Shimmer Rose Shimmer Mixers Powder in a disposable cup and stirred it together with a popsicle stick.  I painted the flowers with my Crystal Lacquer mixture using a small, inexpensive paint brush.  As they dried, they curled up, which gave them some added dimension.
Tray of petals (800x600)
Then I just stacked up the layers I wanted and sewed them to my pillows!  I used a button to anchor the stitches.  I recommend button thread for this, as it is much stronger than regular sewing thread. I also sometimes use several strands of embroidery floss, which comes in more colors than button thread. You could also use glue.  I made my pillows, but you could use purchased pillows.  If you decide to make your own, please check out my Tips for Sewing with Burlap.
Ivory burlap pillow with flower (800x580)
The Crystal Lacquer gave the flowers texture but wasn’t so stiff that I couldn’t sew through it.  And the Shimmer Mixer gives them the prettiest glimmer!
Flower closeup (766x800)
I  also made some brooches by sewing the flower layers together and then sewing on a pinback.  You could use these flowers for many other projects, too!

I am having so much fun creating with Sakura Hobby Craft products!  I hope you'll visit their website and try some of their products, too!

Good morning, Brenda here and welcome to my first post for Sakura.  I'm so excited to be here and share the wonderful products that Sakura has.  Visit Sakura Hobby Craft for your 3D Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul's Mixers at http://www.sakuracraft.com/. USE THE COUPON CODE TO GET YOUR TERRI SPROUL MIXERS TODAY!  The Coupon code to get 20% off is "SHIMMER03".  Hurry and get yours today.

Now I want to show you what beautiful color you get.  I am very passionate about a lot of things, but the one thing that is near and dear to my heart right now is a dart league that I am playing in to support cancer.  It's an all women's league.  All the money that we raise goes to fighting cancer.  We are doing fund raisers, auctions and even side pledges.  I decided to make myself a pin recognizing this league.

I started with some paperclay and used a ribbon cookie cutter to cut it out.
I sanded the edges with an emery board and got into all those tiny areas.
Then I painted it with the Shimmer Pink Sapphire and 3d crystal lacquer.  This is the most beautiful paint ever.  Also when using the 3d crystal lacquer you get a nice seal over the top of your project.
Then I molded 3 darts using an existing dart earring I had
I painted each dart gold
Of course I own a dart board stamp and stamped
that image onto some white cardstock.
Then I adhered the darts and the dartboard onto the ribbon again
using 3d crystal lacquer because it bonds very well
and then I also layered some more 3d crystal lacquer
over the top of the dartboard and it gives it a glass like look.
Really honestly, the pictures do it no justice.
I wish I had a better way of showing you how beautiful this pin turned out.
I put a pin back onto my ribbon and it hangs proudly on my dart case.

I want to thank you for coming over and checking out my first post for Sakura.  You can find me here to check out my other projects.  I'll be showcasing Sakura products all month long.  Don't forget to head over to Sakura for a 20% off of the shimmers.  They are exquisite...

Shimmered Vintage Paper Flower & Chipboard

Hi everyone! I am Dale Anne Potter.
I am part of the new Sakura Hobby Craft
Design Team and I am excited to share with you my first project.
This is my first time using these wonderful products
and I have to say it was AWESOME!

A list of items I used today:

Die cut (by a friend) vintage paper flowers
vintage button
rhinestone
chipboard letters
hot glue & gun
small paint brush
baby wipe
3D Crystal Lacquer
Terri Sproul's Shimmer Mica Color Set
-Tanzanite
-Citrine

I have had these vintage paper die cut flowers for a couple years and wanted to use them for a project, and felt they might be too fragile.  I received the box of Sakura products late last week, so thought this would be a good test for me.

I was warned that you need very little of the shimmer mica powders. I squeezed out a quarter size of the 3D Crystal Lacquer, then sprinkled the Tanzanite mica powders and mixed with a small paint brush. What I really like is that the 3D Crystal Lacquer is washable. I wanted the shimmer and the lacquer to strengthen the vintage paper and it worked.  Each section of the flower was done individually, spread out to dry, then layered together with hot glue. They are very pliable.
The centre Citrine mica powder was not only painted onto the vintage paper but the little vintage button as well.  I had some of the citrine left and lightly brushed around the centre. I used baby wipe to clean off my craft sheet.

The chipboard letters were already coloured, I just added the #D Crystal Lacquer on top of them once they were glued onto my flip mini album.

I am VERY pleased with how the flower turned out with shimmer & very pliable.
