Turning a "Good Fortune" into a Stylish Altered Bangle

Happy Wednesday! What do you do with a leftover cardboard tape spool and a fortune from a fortune cookie??? Susan back again to share another project I've created using Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer with Terri Sproul Mixers - this time I'm GREENCRAFTING!!!

I've made a CHIC artistic bangle out of a recycled cardboard tape spool that I have painted with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul Mixers and collaged with stamped paper misted with my Mixers Mist. The feature of my bangle is a fortune that I saved from a fortune cookie.

I cut a section away from the tube and cut the edges rounded. I sanded the edges with an emory board.

On a strip of scrap patterned paper, I stamped I used Viva Las Vegastamps! patent stamp #1687 with waterproof royal blue ink.

I misted paper with my sheer Mixers Mist to dampen paper. CLICK HERE to see post on how to make your own Mixers Mists.

Gently crumple the paper to break up fibers to that it is not so stiff - AND - it will give a nice suede texture.

I also misted with some bronze/copper penny Mixers Mist to add extra shimmer and this brings out detail of distressed paper. I set aside to dry.

I mixed up some Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer and Garnet Pearl and Garnet Shimmer Terri Sproul Mixers to apply a base layer to the bangle.

I apply Garnet Mixers to base of tube with 2-3 coats to seal paper and also to build up a nice layer of color.

Completed painted cardboard bangle - which looks lovely just like this! But this is just a starting off point...I want to make it more "ME". So I'm going to make it all painted and inky, too!

Now I adhere the stamped and painted paper I prepared in the beginning. I cut lines into the paper around the rounded sides to get a smooth wrap-around. I mounted my fortune to a rectangle of chipboard and adhered to bangle with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer. I finished off by painting entire bangle in a nice coat of Crystal Lacquer.

Presenting "Art-cycled" CHIC Bangle

My bangle is all artsy and recycled! It looks lovely...and is the perfect home for my GOOD FORTUNE "You feed your body every day. You must also feed your mind".

I hope you enjoyed today's post - and all of the projects I have created during my time with the Sakura Hobby Craft Design Team! Tube Bead bracelet

Today I bring to you a fun and easy jewelry project that you can make with remnant pieces of scrapbook paper, your Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer, some matching ink, some large-holed accent beads, and some hemp twine.  I hope you enjoy my project.
I love paper! Love it! I will buy at least 2 sheets of a particular pattern when I'm scrapbook paper shopping [or even when I'm not shopping for paper and it just reaches out and grabs me]. If it's particularly choice I will often buy 6 or more sheets so I can have it around me for several projects. As I work on the projects I will hoard the scraps--something I would not normally do to "plain old" paper.
This new Mechanic paper from the new Craftsman Collection from Prima I just can't get enough of. I love the deep blues and red-rusts in it and find myself holding on to the scraps. This paper would be perfect for a simple bracelet that could work for both a guy or a girl!

The method

for this project you will need
Hemp Twine
large holed beads
13-15 paper strips cut 1"×5"
1 paper strip cut ¾"×5"
matching ink
bamboo skewer for rolling paper
brush and Emory  board

I roll the strips on the bamboo skewer--creating a large hole for stringing. I glue the flap closed with the lacquer and then brush on a thin coat of lacquer to create a shiny finish to the bead.
Once all the beads are dried, I sand the ends to even up the paper and ink them to remove the harsh white edge.
I start with 2 yards of hemp. I fold it in half, knot a small loop on the fold and thread a large hold bead with both strings. When I get near to the loop I take both ends of the hemp and run the thread back through the hole the same direction--it creates the thread pattern on the outside to the bead AND keeps the bead from slipping through the knot. Stiffening the ends of the string with Crystal Lacquer also helps in the threading process.
After 3 large holed beads, I added on the paper beads threading on string through the bead left to right and the other string right to left--so that the strings cross in the bead and the ends come out either end of the hole. The rest of the paper beads are attached in the same manner.
After all the paper beads are added to get the desired length, the large holed beads are added again to match the beginning of the bracelet. Finally the ¾" bead is added as before and then knots are created at each opening and the ends are then coated with lacquer and tucked back into the holes.

A New Piece of Jewelry made with Sakura Crystal Lacquer

Hello there everyone! I wanted to share a necklace that I made using a blank bezel, some ephemera and Sakura Crystal Lacquer. I started out with the following:

IMG_1281

Once I had picked all of the pieces that I wanted to put together, I first used a bit of the Crystal Lacquer to hold my bottom piece down and then used the Crystal Lacquer to add all the other components of the necklace to the bezel. Once everything was attached, I filled the bezel up the rest of the way with Crystal Lacquer and I love how it looks!

The Crystal Lacquer dries clear and you don’t have to worry about a lot of bubbles and if you get one it’s very easily gotten rid of. I think this one is going to be a gift for a granddaughter. Of course I’ll have to make several more, so that no one gets jealous!lol

Butterfly Wish Box

A while back I started playing with a wooden box, Terri Spoul Mixers and 3D Crystal Lacquer.  I really wasn't pleased with how it was turning out so I put it away for a couple months.

That was the show I did regarding the box.  After a couple of months in hiding I went through and pulled it back out.  I decided to go all out flowers, glitter, butterfly punches and a Zentangled top.  I decided to make a Butterfly Wish Box for my daughter.

Materials:
Wooden Box
Terri Sproul Mixers:  Tanzanite Shimmer and Pearl, Garnet Pearl, Copper and Violet Shimmer
3D Crystal Lacquer
Ultra Fine Glitter
HOTP 3D Flower Template
Mini Bottle Cap
Fiskars® Butterfly Punch
Ultra Fine Bic® Mark-It - Purple
Tissue Paper
Stencil
Stamps
Staz-On Black Ink

1.  Mix lacquer and Tanzanite Mixer together.  Take brush and apply the tissue paper to the box.  Cover completely with tissue paper.  Allow to dry.

2.  Stencil and/or stamp images to the box.

3.  Create flower, cover flower with lacquer mixer.  Add glitter to the top of the box.  Allow to dry.  Punch out butterflies paint with lacquer mixture.  Once dry attach to the front of the box.

4.  Take Bic Mark-it and Zentangle the top of the box.  All of the patterns I used came from HERE - Tangle Patterns.

5.  Finish the inside of the box with mixtures or with fabric.

6.  Add strips of blank paper so it can be filled with wishes.  Give to a special little girl and tell her it is her Wishing Box!

Christmas in July...has spilled over into August!

Happy Wednesday and it's a new month! Susan back again to share another project I've created using Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer with Terri Sproul Mixers Glitter and Glitz Effects...and some Sakura Hobby Crafts glass tiles to make some beautiful Christmas ornaments.

I have been creating in the Christmas theme ALL year for another DT that I create weekly for and I think it will be OK that I extend Christmas in July {by just one day}...I promise it is worth your wild!

First off a some simple ornaments using Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer and some inexpensive cookie cutters. I'm a Christmas Elf and I have been creating Christmas cards all year, so it was fun to make some handmade vintage ornaments using digital collage images from AlteredPages.com.

This idea is all over magazines and holiday idea books every holiday season - and these make great gifts or package toppers. What you want to do is size your image to the cookie cutter shape and print out on cardstock. Then you run a bead of Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer around the inside edge of the cookie cutter. This will act like caulking around a window frame and seal the paper to the metal. These are so fun to make - they are like decorating cookies!

After drying completely, trim edges and embellish with some glitter.
Add another bead of Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer around inside edge then pour glitter on top.

Pour off excess and you are left with a beautiful snowy border full of shimmer.

Finish of with a ribbon to hang. Each shape takes on it's own personality and the possibilities are endless. Now for another ornament...

I gathered my Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer, some holiday die cut paper shapes and glass tiles from Sakura Hobby Crafts.

I prepped and inked the paper die-cuts and adhered frame on top of angel piece using Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer. I flood-filled in the center area with Crystal Lacquer and placed glass tile in the center.

After adjusting placement, I filled in remaining border with Crystal Lacquer to give extra dimension and shine.

While the decorated tile was drying - I set to work creating a paper rondela. I stamped using "Jingle Bells #10686 Sheet Music" from Viva Las Vegastamps! onto a natural tone paper making several strips. I score at 1/4" intervals down the length of each strip and then cut my strips in half to about 2" wide. I accordion folded on score lines and adjoined two strips together and glued together into a circular shape. I adhered this together with a punched circle on the front and back with Crystal Lacquer.

Rondela completed and inked and finished off with some Gold/Citrine Mixers Mist. CLICK HERE to see instructions on how to make your own MIXERS MIST.

Now to add some GLITZ! I lined the edge with Crystal Lacquer and dipped into Holiday Mix Glitz Effects. This is the perfect finishing touch! Tied off with festive red ribbon hanger and this ornament is ready to hang!
