Pink is for October!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I am sure everyone reading this has a family member, friend or knows of someone that has been affected by breast cancer. It is a disease we need to conquer.  Until then everyone man and woman needs to be aware that they are at risk.

This week I would like to share a tribute to my mother, whom my family lost to this disease less than a year ago.  She was a brave soul and fought four hard years.

My project is an altered Altoids tin. My adhesive of choice for this project is Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer. I used images from two Altered Pages collage sheets Think Pink and a sheet I won from their blog hop "Thinking Pink." To create embellishments I fussy cut images from the collage sheets and apply Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer, then Set aside to dry.
Start with an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of pink paper. Cut two strips the height of the tin.  Then score each at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. Adhere the two strips (a full size and a short end.) Use a corner rounder on all corners.  Distress the pink paper with ink; use punchinello as a template to get the pattern on the paper. Cut two extra panels for the top outside and inside.
Outside: Attach upholstery trim around the lower half of the tin with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer.  Adhere distressed pink card stock and Altered Pages Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquered butterfly. While the butterfly was still wet it was dusted with Terri Spour Ultra Fine Glitter.) Add pink half beads around the edge to finish the top!
Inside tin cover: Base pink cardstock, dictionary page, buttons, metal flowers, breast cancer ribbon jewell, sewing machine charm, a little glitter added around the inside and Altered Pages Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquered butterfly folded in half.

The well of the tin holds the accordion card cut earlier.  The card is held in place by a ribbon that was adhered to the bottom of the time before the card was attached.

Here is the card opened all the panels have been embellished and journaling added.

First panel, is adhered to the bottom of the tin.  Altered Pages lady in chair has a Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer dress.
The Altered Pages birds have added dimension with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer.  Next panel, is a picture of my mother with a crown and it is embellished with jewels.
Altered Pages lady with carnation and the rose on the opposite page have dimension added with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer. There is a bit of ribbon with breast cancer ribbon.
The ribbon continues onto the next panel.  Here we have a beautiful  lady and a Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquered heart from Altered Pages. The final panel is a scene from the back of a playing card and a Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquered bird from Altered Pages.

The back of the card is full of journaling. This is a treasure I hope to have for many years.

I would like to share the words from the last panel on the back: "Your days of sewing curtains, wedding dresses, hemming pants, driving grand kids, helping neighbors and all that you did for everyone are over. You now have your wings! Wear them proudly, you earned them.  I love you MOM."
